Freelance Graphic Designer

Square Lightning seeks a freelance Graphic Designer. The person in this position will design a variety of digital and print materials, including presentations, publications, annual reports, educational materials, advertising, social media campaigns, event signage and fliers, and website visuals.

Reporting to the Creative Director, the Graphic Designer will work on a variety of short-term and long-term projects. The ideal candidate is a flexible, collaborative, proactive individual who is able to evaluate and solve problems on tight deadlines.

We estimate needing someone 5 to 10 hours a week depending on time of year and project load.

Qualifications

  • You have 2+ years of experience working as a professional graphic designer with a strong portfolio

  • You are an expert user of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign

  • You pride yourself on your versatility and feel comfortable designing content for multiple channels

  • You have experience designing from established style guides, templates, and branding guidelines

  • You have a keen eye for detail and the ability to look at projects holistically (i.e., you see your work as deeply integrated with the entire creative process)

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in fine arts, graphic design, communications or related field

  • You have experience working with nonprofit organizations and bring a social justice lens to your work

Responsibilities

  • Design images for events, social media and campaigns; publications published across multiple channels, including web stories; external engagements; advertisements; newsletters and marketing emails; donor correspondence; impact reports and more.

  • Expertly create digital and print assets in support of a variety of clients, mostly nonprofits and educators.

  • Ensure that all visual assets reflect a high level of design quality and meet the delivery standards Square Lightning clients expect.

  • Support both long-term projects and respond to immediate requests on tight deadlines.

  • The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills and is deeply collaborative.

Compensation

Compensation is $85/hour plus a $500 holiday bonus in December.
