Probation and Parole Project in the Justice Lab at Columbia University

The Probation and Parole Project in the Justice Lab at Columbia University aims to shift the way probation and parole operate in the United States. The Project envisions a world where probation and parole are smaller, less punitive, and more hopeful, equitable, and helpful, and where resources are invested directly to communities in ways that advance collective efficacy, opportunity, and racial equity.

Square Lightning partnered with the Probation and Parole Reform Project to design a publication template and mini style guide that can be applied to the development of future reports. SQL created a mood board showcasing designs for sample infographics and data visualization, typography, and other graphic elements designed to make the report layouts clean and easy to read. The design struck a visual tone that reflects academic rigor while remaining accessible and compelling to policymakers and engaging to the general public.
